• David thought that things were never the same after he left juvenile hall. And he is happy to return but then he realizes that every one at the home looks at him in a different manner as they used too.
• He thought that even big Larry, who at one point he considered his brother gave him the cold shoulder and what used to be the most important thing to him which was his murray bike he even let it go to rust he didn't even care.
• On Friday afternoon July 1974 David was told by Gordon that he had to move out of the Catanzes home because he knew that he was having troubles at the home?
• He also realized on his departure that Lilian and Rudy cared more for him than his actual parents did. Also when he was leaving Lilian kept sobbing on him and Gordon had to separate them.
• In the last chapter David goes to the heart of San Francisco in the Search of his father but instead he saw his uncle lee and he told him that his father retired and that he has a drinking problem and that maybe David could help him out of this problem.
• Then he finally saw his father and they spent some time walking together and then David broke the silence by asking his father what happened and his father said it was your mother it was crazy your better off forgetting her.Then his father took him to the fire truck he worked on and he said that , that was the only thing he didn't screw up.

• At this point he is fed up with his life and he compares it to a roller coaster. He now begins to get a thrill from stealing just to see if he could get caught but he said that he would never smuggle into Mrs. Cantanze's home. Then he got bored of stealing candy he would steal toys and he became known for it and he liked the attention.
• One day he got dared to steal something by a little boy called Johnny but he set him up Johnny's father was the manager of the store David kept stealing from after David came out the store from stealing his prize they yelled busted . Lillian was really upset with him and she just didn't understand what was his problem.
• Then she accused him of stealing her cigarettes he denied it but she could no longer believe him because he had accused of stealing.
• David also began to do his chores in a careless matter and then he decided that he was going to run away. At this point I think hes just being a reckless child.
• Ms. Gold the social worker that had worked with David before asked him what was going on with his behavior and he hadn't seen her in a while so he knew things were serious and then he told her that he was tired of being picked on.

• In the beginning of the beginning of the fourth chapter he finally realizes that his mother cannot harm him any more. But he still had a feeling that some how she would get him. But he had another feeling that told him that he wold never see his mother of his brothers ever again.
• At first he was confused not living with them and with the thought that he did not deserve to live with them and he also felt that he was unworthy that's why his mother didn't love him and wanted to kick him out her house.
• He tried his best not to think about his past or anything that would make him remember that terrible e felt " like a light switch, I imagined myself flicking on and off my entire past" (Pelzer 80)
• In the beginning of the Fifth chapter he was beginning to live a normal life he would admire every second of it every time he would ride his Murrar bicycle and sleeping with his window open that he never did eating breakfast in the morning.
• He finally had a motherly figure in his life and she was Mrs. Cantaze every chance he would get when he was leaving the house he would wave at her. Just like a son would do to his mother which i think is good for him to finally have a good motherly figure.

• This chapter begins with David leaving his school and all he said good bye to all his teachers and his homerooom teacher whispered to him that he would tell his class the truth about him and Mr.Zieglers statement meant alot to him because he really wanted to be accepted by his classmates.
• There was another teacher that he really liked she was Mrs.Woodworth because she helped him express his pain and lonelyness in books.He would spend hundred of hours in the dark being his mom's prisoner while reading.
• After saying his good byes the nurses and doctors that examinded him were in schock that his body was so bruised up and mistreated. And while a nurse was bathing him she sniffled because she felt so bad.
• The doctor asked the policeman if he was going to send him back to the horrible life he was living before. But the policemen said that he was going to make sure that he wasnt going to go back.
• The policeman explained to David that he would be going to a foster home and that he would never have to deal with his mother ever again.

• The book begins with David saying that he was hungry and he was shivering in the dark and he sits on top of his hands at the bottom of the stairs of the Garage.
• He was only nine years old and he considered himself his mothers prisoner. He's been living like that for nine years old and everyday its the same thing he wakes up from sleeping on an old army cot in the garage, and does all the chores and if hes lucky hes gets to eat.
• At some point David fathers tell Davids mother that she treats him horribly and she calls David and ask him if she treats him bad and he stayed quite and then she said if you think i treat you so bad leave and he considered staying but he walked out and the mother said to his father said there the boy made his decision
• After David left he realized that he had no where to go no where to hide and no friends. As soon as he left his mother said that he would be back but he never went back
• David had a quarter in his pocket and walked to a pizzeria where he met a man that asked him what he was doing there and David said that he wanted to buy some food then the man found it strange that David was there and the man asked him a few question and promised him a pizza but he called the police and then David said that he betrayed him but the man didn't he really helped him the police man questioned David and he didn't want to say anything but he did and he thought that his mother was going to find him and beat him.

• Mai described the South China Sea on April 30 1975 as the exodus by sea , a lurching protuberance of South Vietnamese Navy Vessels, barges, tugboats, junks, sampans, fishing boats, and other makeshift vessels, all heading away from the Coast .

• In this chapter Mai founds the letter her mother left for her on her dresser which said that Mai was under an Allusion of freedom.

• In this chapter the past few months for her had been followed by many changes. She had spend four months in the Hospital , in which she spent a whole week in intensive care and three weeks in rehabilitation center and now a new home.
• Mai's mother would hold dinners in her home which Mai would called her little Saigon in which they would keep their culture while still trying to adapt to the american ways.
• Mai's mother was going through a neurological crisis which is when wires between the right and the left sides of her brain were not completly functional her mother could only manage hearing the sound of one hand clapping.
• Mai also recalled moments in which her mother was able to do many thing but that was years ago before she ever had the disorder.
• She also noticed that when her Mother was in Saigon she was able to do all of those things
