  • The beggining of this chapter began with Uncle Michael tellling Mai that the Pam Am flight out of Tan Son Nhut Airport that would head first for Manila, then Guam, then Honolulu, on to Dalls, then finally Hartford then they would drive to their home he told her that she is lucky taking that flight.
  • But a few Months later Mai discovered that the only way to be able to leave Vietnam was was the uncharted one by Sea.
  • A couple months after Mai left Saigon she saw her future unfold on tevelicions from the family room in Farmington.
  • Americans wanted the war in Saigon to end in the book Mai says " I had been watching all this, along with Uncle Michael and Aunt Mary, and like the rest of America, in the safety of our living room'
  • Mai saw Saigon falling apart from the television in what now she called her new home and it was a hard thing for her to see where she came from fall apart
